Around a year after Conrad’s death, in June 2015, Michelle Carter was tried as a youthful offender in juvenile court for involuntary manslaughter. If tried and convicted as an adult, she could have faced up to 20 years in prison. The judge in the case sentenced her to two and a half years in prison, but suspended the sentence and placed her on probation for five years. She was also ordered to undergo mental health counseling and was forbidden from having any contact with the Roy family.
